I've recently been creating more and more art to get out of my head and into the state of being. The solution has been staring right at us. How can it be that simple?! It's always been there but we're so conditioned to believe that a solution can't be that simple.

"If it feels too good to be true then it probably is", echoes in our mind when we think of turning to art for our mental qualms. The most life changing solutions are always the seemingly stupid ones. As humans we want to feel worthy, we want to feel like we are working hard to accomplish things, and for that reason we bypass the most simple solutions.The lack of friction tricks us into thinking that it must not be a valid path since suffering is so ingrained in our psyche. We've been drilled with sermons on how life is such a massive struggle, about how a life without pain isn’t worth living.That's led us to over inflate every little thing to satisfy our ego.

We've lost touch with the creative activities that brought us joy as a child. One would create castles out of sand, paintings with fingers, models with dough and art pieces on walls without ever overthinking the process. We were so courageous in getting our hands dirty. But as our life began to grow, so did the problems and we set out to find complicated solutions.

Meditation doesn't feel good unless its done in a secluded jungle, yoga seems pointless if there's no smoothie shop next to it, taking a vacation is useless unless its for at least seven days, engaging in art is a waste of time because it doesn't take much effort, nor does it involve a significant monetary cost. How can something that just needs a pen and paper be worth it?

If by the grace of the universe, you made some time in your extremely busy life, your mind is plagued with thoughts of making it perfect. Instead of being the kid that just grabbed the pencil and began to scribble, you want to be Da Vinci. This pressure for perfection makes you overthink and you get so overwhelmed that you drop the pencil and never pick it up again.

If you manage to stick with it for even a few minutes, I shit you not, the mind begins to settle, the inspiration that you were looking for magically appears, the decisions that you were fearing to make now begin to seem tackleable. Art has this profound effect on us that cannot be explained. It truly makes you feel alive and tethers you in the present.

It seems as though life begins to sort itself out in the back while you're busy creating some art. There's so many different ways to engage in it. Some like to sketch, some paint, some sing, some do it digitally, some like water colors, some like sand, no matter what the medium is, I request you to please engage in it. Explore the different styles until you find yours. Don't judge yourself if a particular art form doesn't resonate with you, just move on to the next. But promise me that one thing you won't do is sleep on this magic medicine. This might be the one thing that saves us all.
